Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard revealed on Instagram on Tuesday evening that he has requested a trade off the crew.
The Miami Dolphins are coming off a powerful 10-win season in 2020 because of the play of the protection, the secondary particularly. Despite star cornerback Xavien Howard reporting to coaching camp on Tuesday, he has no plans to play for the Dolphins in 2021 and past.
Howard took to his private Instagram account on Tuesday evening to let the world know that he has formally requested a trade off the Dolphins. Until the crew formally sends him to a different crew, Howard will proceed to report back to Miami’s coaching camp.

There was uncertainty as as to if Howard would even report back to coaching camp, as he did not report to mandatory minicamp earlier this offseason. That was on account of his unhappiness together with his present contract, which is touched upon in his post. He states that he didn’t desire a new contract. Rather, he needed some changes to his present deal.
Howard signed a five-year, $75.25 million contract extension again in 2019. But as he factors out in his post, he’s the second-highest paid cornerback on the Dolphins. He is referring to teammate Byron Jones, who signed a five-year, $82.5 million contract again in 2020.
The 2020 season was an awesome one for Howard, as he recorded a league-high 20 defended passes and 10 interceptions by means of 16 video games. As for his interceptions, these are probably the most recorded by a single participant since 2007 when Antonio Cromartie did so with the then-San Diego Chargers.
With Howard wanting out of Miami, all eyes might be on the Dolphins to see when they are going to trade their star cornerback. Considering the stable marketing campaign he’s coming off of, there’ll little doubt be loads of suitors.
